ReWa’s DIG Greenville project was one of the Upstate’s largest wastewater infrastructure upgrades, designed to support Greenville’s growth for the next 100 years while protecting the Reedy River and minimizing disruption at the surface. Completed in 2022 after more than three years of construction, the project includes a 1.3-mile, 10-foot-diameter gravity-powered tunnel built roughly 100 feet underground, eliminating the need for pumps and significantly reducing the risk of sewer overflows. More than 20,000 cubic yards of excavated rock were repurposed for local infrastructure improvements, reflecting the project’s sustainability goals. The tunnel boring machine drilled nearly 6,000 feet through solid granite at depths up to 120 feet, and the project earned ReWa the 2023 NACWA National Environmental Achievement Award for Operations & Environmental Performance.
