Greenville County's Riparian Buffer Ordinance requires mandatory vegetated buffers along streams for new developments, typically a minimum of 50 feet from the stream bank inland, extending to 100 feet for larger watersheds (50+ acres). The ordinance prohibits clearing, grading, or storing materials in these buffers.  This protects water quality and prevents erosion.

Prior to the ordinance sunset date, the ordinance was moved to the Greenville County Stormwater Ordinance and now resides there permanently.
