MetroConnects is a special purpose district that provides wastewater collection services for more than 300,000 people in Greenville County. MetroConnects owns and operates over 1,500 miles of pipe and 26 pump stations that transport more than 20 million gallons of wastewater per day for 106,000 homes and businesses to Renewable Water Resources (ReWa), the regional treatment provider. MetroConnects recently consolidated 7 wastewater collection systems and inherited 8 historic mill village systems. Most of the mill village systems are adjacent to the Reedy River.
Through MetroConnects' CleanWater Forward initiative, MetroConnects has recently invested more than $45M in Greenville’s historic mill villages to replace 100-year-old clay pipes. MetroConnects anticipates investing an additional $110M in future infrastructure needs within the mill village systems over the next 15 years. These investments will support water quality restoration efforts by the Reedy River Water Quality group by eliminating leaks and manhole overflows.
